back to school
Just like you, I remember my first date like it was yesterday. Fourth grade, and we were on the blacktop at Glen Elementary, watching the kickball championship.
Me on the girl side, JJ on the boy side, when his friend walked over. Hey, he said. JJ wants to go with you.
I took out my watermelon Lip Smacker and reapplied. Sure, I said. So that day after school, JJ walked me to the bus stop. We held hands. It was cool. Back when a first date meant something.
